The great wine region of the Barossa Valley produces some memorable performers – Peter Lehmann, Wolf Blass, Penfolds… the list goes on. This got me thinking about the lesser known names here in what can be a tough gig to stick at. Making wine is a lot like making a great song, you can play your favourite tune and be extremely talented but still be unrecognisable to many…

The Long Way to The Top Tour aims to showcase those wine producers in the Barossa Valley that have stuck it out through thick and thin and are still producing some fantastic (but underrated) wines in the region. Some you may have heard of, others will be new names to you – the kind of folk who walk past you in the airport after a tough gig selling their stories in board rooms and dining rooms across the globe.

Strap yourself in and be prepared to be educated, stimulated and perhaps elated when meeting some legends of the Australian wine industry that you may not be aware of but I am sure will take pride of place in your wine fridge at home.

Tour Details
  • 9.45 am: Pick up from your Barossa Valley accomodation
  • 10 – 11 am: Wine Legend #1
  • 11.15 am – 12.15 pm: Wine Legend #2
  • 12.30 – 1.30 pm: Wine Legend #3 – Food Platter lunch
  • 1.45 – 2.45 pm: Wine Legend #4
  • 3.00 – 4.00 pm: Wine Legend #5
  • 4.15 – 5.00 pm: Local Gin or Brewery tasting
  • 5.15 pm: return to your accomodation
